Nasi Lemak


Did you know what is nasi lemak? Nasi lemak is a dish which is popular in Malaysia and Singapore. Nasi lemak is a fragrance rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf (screwpine leaf) which produces the fragrance. 


Nasi lemak means "fatty rice" but in this context, it means rich or creamy which comes from the coconut milk. The rice is cooked in a coconut milk together with the pandan leaf. 


Nasi lemak traditionally will be wrapped in a banana leaves, newspaper (recycle) or brown paper. Nasi lemak is served with some side dishes like slices of cucumber, small fried anchovies, roasted ground peanuts, hard boiled egg, and sambal (spicy sauce).


Nasi lemak normally being ate as a breakfast, because this dish will be eaten by farmers before they go to work.
